I watch the news. Apparently, TikTok is evil, and China is eagerly combing over my posts, looking for juicy information. I pity the poor drone who reads my posts, as I know no national secrets. I don’t know many secrets at all.
I find the generic TikTok feeds of little interest. Then I noticed @jennajustreads, a young person reviewing books. I write young adult books and found her youthful perspective refreshing. I noticed her hashtags and searched #booktok. This led me to #writingtips and #writingtok.
As with Twitter and Facebook, you must be careful not to follow the crazies or folks whose posts make you crazy. Nevertheless, I became a TikTok guy.
I find writers on TikTok to be a pleasant bunch. I recognize a few from Twitter, but many are new to me. I have “Looked Inside” some of their books on Amazon. TikTok isn’t so much about conversations as it is about sharing thoughts. Follow writers, and you may be pleasantly surprised.

If you are looking for squealing music and flashing images, don’t bother with my TikTok presence. I have put up a few videos I call #WritingTips. They are based on Chatty Blogs you have read here. The response has been varied. The most popular #WritingTip garnered 938 views. Last week’s video had 65 views.
As a self-published author, it is important to be seen and noticed. I have written about Platform before. Rather than pitch my books repeatedly, I do my best to pass on what I have learned about writing. Of course I mention my books in passing. If you are curious, you can find me on TikTok here.
